As we noted in our last post, there are proven ways to increase the size and strength of your brain. This can lower your risk of getting Alzheimer’s disease. Two more brain-enhancing techniques are:

Tease Your Memory!

You may think that your memory is not quite what it once was. However, we actually do have an excellent ability to remember darned near anything! We just need to train ourselves to use the right techniques.

You would be amazed, but you do have the ability to remember a list of 20 or 30 items. All you have to do is to make memorable associations with each item. For instance, if you need to remember the word ‘baker,’ you might think of a friend with the last name Baker. Even better, you might think of a bread baker, with a white hat on, covered in flour, baking fresh bread. With that type of image in your mind, you will not forget that word. You can do the very same thing with your shopping list or just about anything. You just have to make a memorable association in your mind with each item. Doing this will have a positive impact on your hippocamus and can help to reduce the chance of getting Alzheimer’s.

Push Ups For Your Brain

Believe it or not, some experts believe that push ups can help to boost the strength of your brain! Having good form is very important, however. Here is how you do it:

  1. Start on the floor with your hands about shoulder width apart. Angle your hands so that you are comfortable.
  2. Extend your legs with your feet also positioned comfortably, which is usually should width apart or even a bit wider.
  3. Make sure your body is in a straight line from your head to heels; your butt should not be sticking up.
  4. Keep your gaze ahead, and lower slowly until your elbows are at a 90 degree angle. Keep your arms tight to the body.
  5. Then push back up, keeping elbows tight and your core engaged. For more support, you can keep your knees bent on the floor and do a modified pushup (this is for when you are just starting out and getting into shape).

Doing seven or more of these push ups per day will help to boost the flow of blood to your brain. This can help to generate new brain cells. That is the key to fighting cognitive diseases such as Alzheimer’s.
